LibiGel - A Rub-on Viagra For Women?

7 01 2008

I was asked to look into a new product called LibiGel as a form of viagra for women.

Well, first, even though we have a category on this blog titled ‘Viagra for Women’, there is really no such thing now, and there never will be. The reason is that Viagra allows blood to flow to a man’s penis and if he is sexually aroused, he gets an erection, but the Viagra does not cause a man to be sexually aroused. Since women do not have a penis, there is no organ that needs help with blood flow in order for a women to have successful sex. Viagra was tested on women and it did increase blood flow to their sexual organs, but so what? Women do not need “an erection”, duh. What women need is sexual arousal! Women need more desire, that’s the problem and it has always been the problem.

LibiGel is a rub-on ointment that delivers a dose of the male hormone testosterone increasing a woman’s desire for sex!

usatoday.com says: “The drug is a testosterone-laden ointment called LibiGel and it’s intended to boost the libido of women who have lost interest in sex.”

Lost interest in sex? The problem is that women, in general, have very little interest in sexual intercourse.

However, LibiGel is not meant to be an aphrodisiac to improve all women’s lifestyles. It’s not a recreational drug. It is meant for women that are post-menopausal and have had both ovaries surgically removed.

Does it work? Yes.

“LibiGel (female testosterone gel) and LibiGel E/T™ (estradiol + testosterone gel) are being developed as once daily transdermal gels for treatment of female sexual dysfunction (FSD). The symptoms for FSD include lack of sexual desire, arousal or pleasure; low energy, reduced sense of well-being, osteoporosis.” - biosantepharma.com

Will it be approved by US FDA?

We can only wait and see, but keep in mind that the previous testosterone delivering product developed by Biosante Pharmaceuticals, the Intrinsa Patch, was rejected by the US FDA. (Approved by the EU though and available online).

The main difference is that LibiGel can be applied to a wide area of skin thereby reducing irritations.

Aphrodisiacs for girls. LIfe just doesn’t get any better.

Ohhhh, if I were young again!

:D

FDA Rejects Female-Viagra Aphrodisiac Intrinsa, But Europe Quickly Approves It

5 01 2008

beautiful-intrinsa-patch-girl-grabs-man

The Intrinsa patch, developed by Proctor & Gamble, was rejected by the US Food & Drug Administration, but quickly approved in Europe.

What are Intrinsa Patches?

Intrinsa is a prescription drug manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Proctor & Gamble. Intrinsa is approved for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). HSDD refers to the deficiency or absence or sexual thoughts and desires in women, however it is not considered a disorder until it causes a patient considerable distress or relationship problems. Intrinsa is supplied in a patch form that contains the active substance testosterone, which is produced naturally in the ovaries in menopausal women. After menopause, testosterone levels drop dramatically resulting in a decreased sex drive. Intrinsa helps increase testosterone levels again, hence restoring womens libido. - atlanticdrugs.com

The female aphrodisiac will initially only be available on prescription for post-menopausal women with diagnosed sexual problems. However it is likely that the patches will later become “lifestyle” drugs bought freely over the counter - used by younger women with no sexual problems who simply want to increase their libido, (read, wanna get laid more often).

Manufacturers Procter and Gamble say the patch helped boost the flagging libido in hundreds of women in tests, and increased the amount of sexual activity they enjoyed. Dramatically successful results were found in menopausal women who had been diagnosed with hypoactive sexual desire disorder, in which libido and sexual activity is reduced - leading to psychological distress. More than 500 took part in the drug company’s six-month study, with half unaware they had been given a dummy patch. - dailymail.co.uk

Interesting to me is that the only active ingredient in the Intrinsa patch is a dose of the male hormone testosterone. :D

go figure.

Anti-impotence? Just Buy Viagra Nasal Spray

6 12 2007

I’ve been using this animated image to make fun of a make-believe Viagra nasal spray, but damn, yesterday I found out that a Viagra nasal spray has been in development for years. I’m the dummy.

Monday, 03 November 2003
NEW YORK (Reuters) - An experimental anti-impotence nasal spray achieved its primary goals in a mid-stage clinical trial, the drug’s maker said on Monday. - urotoday.com

“In a safety and efficacy study of its PT-141 drug for erectile dysfunction, Palatin Technology reported statistically significant improvement in erections across all four dosing levels tested, with no cardiovascular side effects, the tiny Cranbury, New Jersey-based company said.” - urotoday.com

I even wrote about it buy viagra nasal spray and buy viagra for women here.

But wait, is this PT-141 just for erectile dysfunction?

nymag.com says ‘NO”. They say that PT-141 is a true aphrodisiac which works for both men and women.

“…a small white plastic nasal inhaler containing an odorless, colorless synthetic chemical called PT-141. Plain as it is, however, there is one thing that distinguishes PT-141 from the 4,000 years’ worth of recorded medicinal aphrodisiacs that precede it: It actually works.” - nymag.com

I’m getting confused.

Years ago Pfizer was trying to develop a new pill for hypertension. The trials failed but scientists reported that many of the men participating in the trials were experiencing frequent erections; Viagra was born from a mistake or accident.

Now we have this New Jersey firm that was trying to develop a tanning lotion and noticed that men in the trials were getting erections. The switched their goal to a viagra like nasal spray which not only worked, it went further than just giving men erections, it actually increased their sexual desire before the erection AND it worked on women, so it seems that they have stumbled upon the second most adored magical substance in the history of mankind; a true, real, aphrodisiac . (assuming the #1 magical pill is youth, this is a close second).

That is, according to pt141.com .

Now, the drug has a new name: bremelanotide.

“Bremelanotide (PT141) is the generic term for a new medication for use in treating sexual dysfunction in men (erectile dysfunction or impotence) as well as sexual dysfunction in women (sexual arousal disorder). It is a synthetic aphrodisiac. Unlike Viagra and other related medications, it does not act upon the vascular system, but directly increases sexual desire.” - Gelacs.com

Clinical trials are not completed yet, but should be in 2008 and the drug could get FDA approval shortly threreafter.

Buy Viagra For Women :: Part Two

1 12 2007

In Buy Viagra For Women :: Part One I spoke of the amazing popularity of Pfizer’s Viagra and the attention that has been focused on men for their erectile dysfunction. I suggested that not all the blame for erectile dysfunction should be put on men; it takes two to tango, to get an erection, a man needs more than Viagra, he must be sexually aroused by a woman.

My theory is that many American woman are just not turning on their man because the woman is mostly indifferent to sexual intercourse; she can take it or leave it, it’s no big deal to her. For many American women, sex is “dirty”, sinful, a chore, and an unwelcome obligation.

This lack luster attitude toward sexual intercourse has left American women sexually insensitive thus the book The Female Eunuch, first published in 1970, which became an international bestseller. (eunuch: a man who has been castrated).

Why has all this happened?

My personal theory is that the American woman has become confused while making the transition from “just a housewife” to career women. Career wise, she needed some sort of equality with men in the work force. In the course of striving for equality, the women have attached a negative stigma on the sub servient, aim-to-please role of being a housewife.

Said another way, in order to attain equality in the workplace, American women gave up their sub-servient role in the bedroom; that was their mistake.

So now, the all the scientists at the big drug companies are furiously striving to be the first to invent a pill that will relieve this sexual indifference in today’s career women.

Buy Viagra For Women :: Part One

27 11 2007

All this talk of male sexual dysfunction, how popular Viagra has become, 300 million males suffering from erectile dysfunction, the booming counterfeit Viagra trade, etc etc. Hey! Let’s not give all the blame to men.

Possibly the main reason so many men can not get an erection-on-demand is that their woman is not turning him on. It’s not that these women are not sexy, but that they simply are not hungry for the man’s penis. It takes two to Tango, remember?

no-viagra-men-needed

The modern American women seem to feel completely whole without even having a man in their lives.

They are getting pregnant without marriage, not due to irresponsible sex, but because they want a baby in the house, but not necessarily a man in the house.

I thought it about time that we give women a bit more attention regarding women’s sexual dysfunction.

.

naked-viagra-girl

All American men of age are well aware that the average American woman is sexually “cold”, that is, she does not have much desire or craving for physical sex. She is most likely just as happy with a caring embrace as with sexual intercourse. Isn’t that odd? It’s as though her clitoris had been removed.

In the 1960’s we blamed this female sexual coldness and indifference on the American socio-sexual taboos, but the late ’60s and the 70’s brought the Sexual Revolution and Women’s Liberation.

The term “Women’s Liberation” dates back to the 1920’s I believe, but there was a second big wave in the 60’s

“One of the main fields of interest to these women was in gaining the right to contraception and birth control, which were almost universally restricted until the 1960s” - wikipedia.com

The same is true for the term “sexual revolution”:

“…the sexual revolution is attributed to the changing trends in social thought, witnessed from the 1960s into the early 1970s” - wikipedia.com

So, American women have had their sexual revolution and liberation, so what’s the problem?

Why so cold?

Your comments are welcome.

Buy Viagra For Women :: Part Three will look at possible solutions.

Viagra Equivalent For Women - A True Aphrodisiac: Part 2

Viagra-Like-Aphrodisiac For Women : Part 2

This is Part 2, Part 1 is here

REVIEW FROM PART 1:

“More good news is that there is a chemical being tested right now that could do the job.

Bremelanotide, a synthetic version of a hormone involved in skin pigmentation, was developed as a potential tanning agent when some of the male college students participating in the study reported getting erections after application of the agent. Naturally, the developing company quickly began exploring bremelanotide’s characteristics for sexual disorders, (make people more horny).

This stuff could be the miracle social drug to beat them all because when tested on rats, the drug not only gave the male rats erections, it actually created sexual desire in the female rats, perfect! Imagine this at spring break!”

First, it’s important to note that when the studies were done on rats, the female rats responded to the drug only when they could maintain a sense of control over the mating game. In other words, the female rats could get away from the male rat if they wanted. When that escape route was closed, no amount of bremelanotide would sexually excite the female rats. This is important because according to Annette M. Shadiack, director of biological research of Palatin, “this does not look like a potential date-rape drug.”

Inspired by the rodent work, researchers decided to try the drug on women. Results from a pilot study of 26 women with diagnoses of sexual arousal disorder suggest that bremelanotide may well have some mild aphrodisiacal properties.

The participating women were given bremelanotide or a placebo, then answered questionnaires. Based on those questionnaires,

  • 73 percent of the women on bremelanotide reported feeling genitally aroused.
  • 23 percent given the placebo reported feeling genitally aroused.

  • 43 percent of the bremelanotide group said the treatment increased their sexual desire.
  • 19 percent of the placebo group said the treatment increased their sexual desire.

Sounds like pretty good odds to me, I’ll take a case please!

Women in the bremelanotide group also were slightly more likely to have sex with their partners during the course of the trial than were those in the placebo group, although who initiated the bed bouncing was not specified.

Larger trials of the drug at some 20 clinical centers around the United States are now under way.

Viagra-Like-Aphrodisiac For Women : Part 1

viagra-sex-lipEvery man’s perfect sexual dream-come-true, (other than have two women at once), would be to slip a pill into his girl’s drink and she turns into a sex maniac. Wanting him, craving his body, ripping her clothes off and throwing herself on the floor at his feet. Yah?

Well, there is some good news regarding a viagra-like pill for women; the pharmaceutical giants like Pfizer want to find that chemical and make that pill and they are putting millions of dollars into developing an aphrodisiac for women.

More good news is that there is a chemical being tested right now that could do the job.

Bremelanotide, a synthetic version of a hormone involved in skin pigmentation, was developed as a potential tanning agent when some of the male college students participating in the study reported getting erections after application of the agent. Sexy results of bremelanotide actually being given to women will be posted tomorrow.

Female Viagra Problems Are Real

5 10 2007

There have been no clinical studies that I know of showing evidence that Viagra would help a women to have better sex or more sex. However, evidence is coming in that Viagra is causing real problems for women: marital stress, husbands with younger girlfriends, and divorce.

A new term has cropped up among psychology counselors, “viagra wife”; the problem has become that severe. Originally, the problem was with men that could not “get it up”. Over the years, their wives simply lost interest in having sex; (most of them). Now, with Viagra, those same men are getting it up and keeping it up for hours, but their wives are still rather aloof and not impressed. So, the man naturally looks elsewhere. He packs his blue diamonds for his business trip, (which seem to be more often than before), he hides them in his golf bag, and has a spare bottle of them at the office. “This brings on a situation where some Viagra wives now have to confront their own sexual dysfunction”, sex experts say.

And as Viagra has gone mainstream, including the easy and confidential online viagra websites, used by younger men seeking self-confidence and bigger erections rather than relief from a strictly medical condition, the results are showing up in divorce courts across the country.

But no one really wants to discuss this problem. The wives are too ashamed and the men are having too much fun!
