Four-Year Old Girl Given Viagra!
27 01 2008
A LITTLE girl with a rare heart condition is being kept alive with a unlikely treatment - daily doses of Viagra.
Jessica Findlay, four, takes the anti-impotence drug eight times daily to keep her circulation going and ease the strain on her heart.
The brave youngster combines it with a cocktail of other drugs in her fight for survival. But her mother Rachel, 25, said she was stunned when it was first prescribed.
Jessica’s condition is so rare it did not have a name but doctors named it severe multiple bilateral pulmonary stenosis.
She was diagnosed with it when she collapsed at home in Troon, Ayrshire, at 18 months old.
The arteries in both sides of her heart and lungs have begun narrowing, making it difficult for blood to pump around her body and leaving her at permanent risk of organ failure.
Only one other child in the UK is known to suffer from the condition, which more commonly affects only one side of the heart.
