Viagra For Your Dog?

9 01 2008

Did you know that Pfizer’s Sildenafil citrate (the active ingredient in Viagra) is approved for lung disease by the US FDA? It’s marketed with the name Revatio. That’s probably why you hadn’t heard the news. It’s not for all lung disease, but for pulmonary arterial hypertension in the lungs.

Anyways, I did not know that dog owners are treating their dog’s lung disease, (yah right, so why is Rover humping everything that moves? LOL) with Revatio either by getting Revatio from their vet or maybe just buying Viagra online, who knows?

Well, I had heard of some dogs receiving Viagra. There was one story about a dog that needs Viagra in order to stay alive and another story about a dog that overdosed on Viagra. :D

Related to the overdosed dog, someone poses this question “Would you advise giving viagra to your cat or dog just to see what they would do?” on answerbag.com. duh!

Medicines like Amoxcillin for infections and even Viagra, for heart problems. “Viagra, it’s for hypertension on the animals,” says Pikes Peak Pharmacy manager Margaret Atencio. advice-viagra

“Americans have started medicating their dogs as much as they medicate themselves. Vets will prescribe mostly human pharmaceuticals like steroids for inflammation, antibiotics for infection, anti-clotting agents for heart ailments, Prozac or Valium for anxiety, even the impotence drug Viagra for a lung condition!” - dogadviceblog.com

Oh well, it’s a dog eat dog world, huh?
